If you are reading this, then you are in a select group in this world. Those who can read.

That’s how I was going to begin this post. I was then going to tell you that it is rare in this world for people to be able to read and that you should be thankful that you can.

Only about 66% of the people in the world can read. That’s what I planned to tell you, and it would have been useful and accurate information, especially for a Social Studies report in school.

But there’s my problem. It would have been great information a half-century ago when I was in Social Studies writing reports.

Now it is just wrong.

The world literacy rate hasn’t been below 80% in this millennium. It’s now over 86%. I was wrong, but this is great news.

Be thankful that you can read, and also be thankful that someone took the time to teach you how to read AND that in spite of what the media wants you to believe, people ARE trying to make this world a better place-and they are succeeding. And you can help.

Make this world a better place in whatever way you choose. It doesn’t have to be teaching to read. There are lots of ways. Could be just a smile… 🙂

You can do this.
